Iranian authorities subjected Roya Heshmati to horrific flogging as punishment for appearing unveiled in public. Millions of other women and girls are at risk of similar torture for exercising their human rights until Iran's discriminatory compulsory veiling laws are abolished. Wearing a hijab should never be forced or banned.

💔💔💔 Those who ban the hijab and those who force it are two sides of the same coin. #HerChoice

Ridiculous. Who came up with this rule? Can’t believe they are so behind…

Sure. Hijab should not be forced or banned. But, you posted anything when France banned it?

These kind of brutal so called punishments have been carried out on a daily basis but this regime. Flogging is the mildest punishment they subject women to. They were never hold accountable for their crimes due to #EU and #US plus #UN appeasement policies.

Amnesty International and nobody cares. These kind of sporadic news aren't helping anyone to see the atrocious act, not just this one photo but more on a daily basis. Just one or two messages a week is not enough. These leaders champion human rights only if it benefits them, and many people are blinded by it.

Roya Heshmati's initial sentence was a total of 13 years and 9 months of imprisonment for protesting the mandatory hijab. It was overturned on appeal and changed to a fine plus 74 lashes.

This is insane, no other words for it - I look forward to the day when women in Iran can dress like they did in the 1970s again #freewomeninIran#
